BNP Adopts Hardline to Maintain Discipline and Image
The BNP is implementing a ‘zero tolerance’ policy to maintain party discipline and uphold its image. The party has made it clear that anyone engaging in extortion, land grabbing, intimidation, misbehavior, irregularities, or corruption under the party’s name will face strict action without exception.
According to sources close to acting chairman Tarique Rahman, he has been actively communicating with grassroots leaders and monitoring the situation closely. Since August 5, the party has been compiling a list of those involved in such misconduct, with Tarique Rahman personally overseeing the process and emphasizing that no one, regardless of status or connections, will be spared.
From Dhaka to all corners of the country, Tarique Rahman has kept a strict watch, supported by a robust monitoring system. The central office is taking swift action upon receiving any complaints—this includes issuing show-cause letters or expelling members if allegations are proven. The crackdown applies to all, including members of the party’s standing committee and national executive committee.
Confirming the party’s hardline stance, central office secretary Advocate Taiful Islam Tipu said, “Several hundred leaders have already been suspended, and nearly a thousand members have been issued letters seeking explanations.”
Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi told the media, “Any complaints from any part of the country are thoroughly investigated. If even the slightest involvement is found, explanations are sought, and if proven, expulsion or suspension follows. Our acting chairman has issued clear instructions—no one is exempt, regardless of rank, if there are concrete allegations. We are taking strict organizational action and, in some cases, legal action as well.”
Rizvi also warned that some individuals are trying to misuse the BNP’s name for personal gain, targeting public officials, police, and other institutions. “We urge all concerned parties to be vigilant against such unauthorized interference, as these individuals do not represent the BNP,” he added.
Mirza Abbas, a member of the party’s standing committee, stated, “It is not easy to suspend or expel a long-time member. However, when such action is taken, it is based on sound judgment and serves as a warning to others.”
Joint Secretary General Advocate Abdus Salam Azad stressed, “Tarique Rahman has issued strict instructions that anyone violating party discipline will face organizational action. Several members have already been dealt with accordingly.”
He further noted that external conspiracies are also attempting to damage the party's image, and everyone must remain cautious.
Central Secretary for Information and Technology, HM Saif Ali Khan, reiterated the party's commitment: “The BNP has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against those damaging the party's image and violating discipline. Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is leading this effort, and the central office is executing his directives without exception.”
Since the beginning of the new political landscape in the country, BNP, under Tarique Rahman’s leadership, has been playing a constructive role to curb internal chaos and establish order within the party.
