Dr. Yunus Urges Museum to Showcase Public Outrage Over Hasina's Ouster
The interim government’s Chief Advisor, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, visited Ganabhaban, now declared a museum of the student and public uprising, and urged for its swift conversion into a full-fledged museum.
During his visit on Monday, October 28, Dr. Yunus was accompanied by advisors Adilur Rahman Khan, Nahid Islam, and Asif Mahmud.
Professor Yunus emphasized that the museum should preserve memories of Hasina’s era of misrule and include signs of public outrage leading to her ouster.
While inspecting the site’s ruins, Dr. Yunus recommended creating a replica of the infamous "Ainaghar" (Mirror House) inside the museum, where Hasina’s notorious security agency allegedly detained hundreds of opposition activists in secret. He stated that the torture inflicted on detainees within the Mirror House should be made known to visitors.
The Chief Advisor urged his team to consult experts on museum design and finalize proposals by December this year.
Photos posted on the Chief Advisor's official Facebook page show graffiti and protest notes on the walls and rooms of Ganabhaban, reflecting the anger of demonstrators.
The site was stormed by hundreds of thousands of protesters on August 5, following the former prime minister's departure from the country. The protesters reportedly vandalized the building, leaving much of it in ruins.
