Direct Dhaka-Addis Ababa Flights Take Off!
Africa's top airline and Star Alliance member, Ethiopian Airlines, has started passenger services in Bangladesh. On Sunday, November 3, the Chairman of the Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority, Manjur Kabir Bhuiyan, inaugurated the Dhaka-Addis Ababa route.
This launch opens new opportunities for medical, employment, educational, and trade exchanges between the two countries.
According to sources, Ethiopian Airlines will offer direct access from Dhaka to the African region with affordable fares and quality service. Initially, flights will operate five times a week, eventually increasing to daily service. The airline aims to attract Bangladeshi expatriates living in South Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and North America. Yohannes Bekele, the airline’s country manager, stated that this will strengthen relations and expand trade between Bangladesh and Ethiopia.
Last year, the governments of Bangladesh and Ethiopia agreed to establish a direct flight connection. Now, with the flights operational, the Civil Aviation Authority expects increased investment and revenue.
Manjur Kabir Bhuiyan, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority, told Somoy Sangbad, "Ethiopia is a diplomatic and political capital, and its market is expanding. If we can continue the Ethiopian Airlines flights, it will boost investment, bringing Ethiopian investments to Bangladesh."
Ranked fourth among the world’s top 100 airlines, Ethiopian Airlines also holds the title of leading cargo carrier in Africa. Out of its 147 aircraft, 123 are passenger planes.
