Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that 90 percent citizens of the country are getting electricity facility. She said, to bring all under coverage of this service subsidy is being given but the opportunity will not be available in future.
The Prime Minister said these while inaugurating the Power and Energy Week-2018 at Basundhara International Convention City in the capital on Thursday.
The Premier said, the average electricity production cost is 6 taka 25 paisa per kilowatt, if we calculate. But we are selling it at the rate of 4 taka 82 paisa per kilowatt.
She said, when we came to power in 2009 the public life was upset by inadequate electricity and load shedding. To overcome the situation extensive programs were taken. In the last nine and half years 13,811 megawatt electricity was added in the national grid from 94 government and private power stations.
Sheikh Hasina said, at present 56 power stations are under construction with capacity of 14,134 megawatt. Electricity production capacity has reached to 20 thousand megawatt. 90 percent population of the country has come under coverage of electricity. We will reach electricity to all by the year 2021, Insallah.
The Prime Minister said, we had declared to build digital Bangladesh in our election manifesto of 2008. Today’s Bangladesh has turned into a digital Bangladesh in real meaning. We want that our children will be enlightened with modern knowledge.
She said, how we will build Bangladesh in 2041 and in the next century how it will be- considering those the Delta plan 2100 has been formulated and taken forward. Thus we are taking steps to build future for Bangladesh.
The Prime Minister said, to meet the demand of electricity one thousand megawatt electricity will be imported from neighboring country’s West Bengal. Electricity will also be imported from Nepal-Bhutan through India.
Informing all that the government is working to ensure developed and prosperous life for the future generation she urged to be conscious for preventing misuse of power and energy.
