Khaleda Zia Visits Senakunja Today
Former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia reached Senakunja to attend the Armed Forces Day ceremony.
This marks her first public appearance and participation in a state function in six years, since her imprisonment in February 2018. The last time she attended the Armed Forces Day reception was in 2012.
Khaleda Zia, the 79-year-old former Prime Minister, accompanied by the wife of her late son Arafat Rahman Koko, left her Gulshan residence around 3:30 pm on Thursday (November 21). BNP Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan informed the media about this in the afternoon.
On Tuesday (November 19) night, Chief of General Staff (CGS) Lieutenant General Mizanur Rahman Shamim and Principal Staff Officer (PSO) Lieutenant General ASM Kamrul Ahsan handed over the invitation letter to Khaleda.
BNP media cell member Shairul Kabir Khan said that around noon that day, BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman, party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee members, and senior leaders, along with army officials, handed over invitations to the chairperson's private secretary Abdus Sattar at the Gulshan office in the names of 26 leaders.
Along with Khaleda Zia, this is the first time since 2009 that BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman has also been invited to the reception at the cantonment. A total of 26 leaders of the party, including BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, have been invited to the event.
Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus is also expected to be present at the event at the Senakunja.
