The court has sent former Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam to jail after remanding him in a case of murdering a man named Bokul Miah during the student movement.

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan issued this order on Friday (November 22).

Earlier, the investigation officer had requested that the accused be produced before the court after a five-day remand and be detained in jail.

The application said that important information was found during the interrogation of the accused on remand, which is under the verification process.

It is learned that during the anti-discrimination student movement on July 17, a person named Bokul Miah was shot at the Azampur bus stand under Uttara East police station. He died two days later while undergoing treatment. Bokul's wife, Ms Monika Akhter, filed a case with Uttara East police station in this incident.

Then, on the night of October 16, Mohammadpur police arrested Atiq from the capital's Mohakhali DOHS area. On November 13, the court granted the accused a five-day remand in this case.
