Background
On August 5, under pressure from a mass student and public uprising, the Awami League-led government was forced to relinquish power. Following this, influential MPs, ministers, and leaders of all levels of the party went into hiding. Subsequently, on September 5, all members of the Election Commission led by Kazi Habibul Awal resigned collectively.
Amid this situation, on Thursday (November 21), President Sahabuddin formed a new five-member Election Commission led by retired Secretary A.S.M. Nasir Uddin. This new commission will be responsible for organizing the upcoming national parliamentary elections.
