Jatiya Nagorik Committee, an organization formed based on the July Revolution, has rejected the newly formed Election Commission. They say that the new Election Commission formed by the interim government was formed under the law of the previous Awami League government.

The withdrawal of the EC was announced at a press conference held at the head office of the Jatiya Nagorik Committee on Sunday (November 24) afternoon. The organization's spokesperson Samantha Sharmin read out a written statement at the press conference.

They demanded the removal of President Md. Sahabuddin and the repeal of the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commission Acts of 2022. The organization's spokesperson said in a written statement that a new Election Commission should be formed under the new law in light of the proposals received to reform the electoral system.

Samantha Sharmin said, "We have observed with surprise that the current interim government has formed a search committee to form an Election Commission under that law. However, it would have been reasonable to repeal that law after the July student uprising."

On November 21, the new Election Commission was formed on the orders of the President. Today, Sunday, the newly appointed Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin and four election commissioners took oath.

Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed administered the oath to them at 1:30 pm at the Judges' Lounge of the Supreme Court.
