Planning Adviser Professor Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud has stated that economic and income inequality is currently a significant concern. He shared this concern while speaking at the ABCD Conference organized by the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) on Saturday, December 7.

The Planning Adviser emphasized that to reduce inequality, quality education is essential, something Bangladesh is far from achieving.

At the same event, World Bank Chief Economist Indermit S. Gill remarked that to break free from the middle-income trap, Bangladesh needs to focus more on investment and employment generation. He also stressed the importance of promoting entrepreneurship and increasing the use of technology.

According to the World Bank, to move forward, the country must first increase investment in human capital development. It also suggested that strategies be adopted to expand bilateral and regional trade to attract foreign investment. The World Bank's Chief Economist urged Bangladesh to take steps to increase the value addition of services and manufactured goods.

Additionally, Indermit S. Gill advised formulating short, medium, and long-term plans to tackle the challenges of uninterrupted energy supply.
