CA Urges Meta to Address Misinformation Campaign Against Bangladesh

Dr Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor of the interim government called on Meta to take action against misinformation about Bangladesh being spread on Facebook.

On Sunday (December 8), Dr Yunus made this appeal during a meeting with Meta's Director of Human Rights Policy Miranda Sissons.

During the meeting, Dr Yunus highlighted that extensive disinformation campaigns targeting Bangladesh are being conducted from certain countries, aiming to undermine the achievements of the July-August uprising.

He expressed concern about the negative impact of these campaigns on the nation.

Dr Yunus also emphasized the importance of making technology more accessible for young entrepreneurs. He noted the potential of Facebook in fostering entrepreneurship among the youth and stated that the Bangladesh government will continue to collaborate with Facebook for the benefit of the young population.

In response, Meta's Director Miranda Sissons explained Meta's human rights policies and assured that the company remains vigilant to prevent the spread of misinformation on its platform.

Lamiya Morshed, principal coordinator for SDG affairs, Shazeeb M Khairul Islam, chief adviser's personal secretary, Ruzan Sarwar, head of Meta's public policy for Bangladesh and Nepal, Nayantara Narayan, associate general counsel of Meta, Alice Budisatrijo, Meta's head of misinformation policy for Asia-Pacific, were among those present in the meeting.
