Irregularities Slightly Higher in Hill Tracts: Chief Adviser
Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, the chief adviser of the interim government commented that irregularities exist all over Bangladesh, but they seem to be somewhat higher in the hill tracts.
He made this statement virtually on Wednesday (11 December) from his residence Jamuna during an event called 'International Mountain Day' organized at the Chittagong Hill Tracts Complex in Bailey Road, Dhaka.
The Chief Adviser stated that the forests, natural resources, and opportunities available in the hill tracts are unmatched elsewhere in Bangladesh. It should have been the most developed region in the country, but the opposite has happened, which is unacceptable. While irregularities are prevalent across Bangladesh, they seem to be slightly more pronounced in the hill tracts. "We aim to reduce this," he said.
He added, "There will be a Youth Festival next month. It should be a festival for everyone, and I hope to see the hill districts take the lead in this event. This festival happening for the first time, will be organized with enthusiasm by the people themselves. It's an opportunity for the youth of the hill regions to prove they are not lagging behind others. If there are any challenges, let me know. I will try to resolve them. We want to change the country and the world through our work."
Dr Muhammad Yunus emphasized that the hill districts must receive the position they deserve. "Our goal should be to place the hill regions at the forefront—being left behind is not an option. The boys and girls of the hill districts will become global citizens. We aim to change not just their areas but the whole world. We must not limit our aspirations."
He concluded by saying that any discrimination between the plain areas and hill tracts must be eliminated. "There must be fraternity and mutual respect between all people," he added.
