Tulip Siddiq, a UK minister in Prime Minister Keir Starmer's government and niece of Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has been questioned by British officials regarding alleged corruption linked to Bangladesh's power projects.

According to The Sunday Times, Siddiq was interrogated by the Cabinet Office’s Propriety and Ethics Team (PET) on Thursday, December 19, about her alleged involvement in facilitating financial misappropriation of approximately £4 billion from a nuclear power project in Bangladesh.

The allegations stem from a 2013 deal between Bangladesh and Russia for the construction of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, during which Siddiq is said to have been present at the signing ceremony in the Kremlin with Sheikh Hasina and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Reports claim that £1 billion in bribes were exchanged during the agreement and that around £3.9 billion was diverted by Sheikh Hasina's family and ministers.

While Tulip Siddiq has not publicly commented on the interrogation, she reportedly addressed the allegations during the questioning. Her connection to Prime Minister Keir Starmer, as his friend and the MP for the neighboring constituency of Hampstead and Kilburn, has added further scrutiny to the situation.

The Cabinet Office's Propriety and Ethics Team conducted the questioning at Siddiq's office, seeking her response to accusations of involvement in the alleged misappropriation related to the £10 billion Rooppur project.
