Home Advisor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury stated that an investigation committee has been instructed to probe the fire incident at Building No. 7 of the Secretariat. The investigation will reveal whether the fire was an act of sabotage.

He made the remarks during a visit to the site on Thursday morning (December 26).

The Home Advisor said that the Cabinet Secretary and Home Secretary have been directed to form a high-level investigation committee.

“Accidents can happen anywhere, including the Secretariat. That is why fire service vehicles are stationed here,” he noted.

He added that the source of the fire and whether it was an act of sabotage will be determined after the investigation.

The fire, which broke out late Wednesday night at 1:50 a.m., was fully brought under control by 8:05 a.m. on Thursday morning. A total of 19 fire service units worked to extinguish the blaze.

Tragically, one firefighter lost his life during the operation after being struck by a truck.

According to information on the Cabinet Division’s website, Building No. 7 of the Secretariat houses six ministries and multiple departmental offices.
