Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali has stated that if the police had made the right decision during the mass uprising of students and citizens, many lives could have been saved.

He made these remarks on Saturday (December 28) afternoon at the annual general meeting of the Bangladesh Retired Police Officers Welfare Association, which was held at the Rajarbagh Police Auditorium in the capital.

Commenting that many lives could have been saved if the police had made the right decision 72 hours earlier, Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali said, "Even if decisions had been made three days before August 5, such a high number of casualties would not have occurred. Similarly, many police officers could have survived. The police associations failed to play the right role during the July mass uprising. These lessons must be kept in mind for the future."

Referring to police personnel pursuing doctorate degrees, the DMP Commissioner added, "If these degrees are not used in police work, there is no benefit in officers obtaining qualifications such as a barrister or doctorate."

The official advised all to focus on service to restore the lost image of the police.
