Tarique Rahman Pays Tribute to Jimmy Carter on Social Media
President Jimmy Carter, the only Georgian to ever occupy the White House, died on Sunday, December 29, 2024, after spending over a year in hospice care. Carter turned 100 on October 1 this year.
Following Jimmy Carter's death, Tarique Rahman, the acting chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), posted a condolence message on his social media accounts (Facebook and X) today (December 30).
In the post, Tarique Rahman wrote, "I extend my heartfelt condolences on the passing of former US President Jimmy Carter, an icon of peace, democracy, and human rights. As a global statesman, his unwavering commitment to justice and equality has left a lasting mark on the world."
Mentioning Carter's support during Bangladesh's formative years and his warm relationship with President Ziaur Rahman, Tarique Rahman wrote, "For Bangladesh, his legacy holds a special place. President Carter's support during our country's formative years and his warm relationship with President Ziaur Rahman were instrumental in strengthening the bond between our nations."
He further wrote, "His contributions will forever be cherished with deep respect and gratitude. May his life and principles continue to inspire generations to uphold the values of democracy and peace."
