On the third day of the English New Year, a 5-magnitude earthquake jolted different parts of the country, including the capital, at 10:32 am this morning (Friday, January 3).
Reports indicate that the earthquake lasted for a few seconds, prompting many people to leave their homes and businesses in panic and rush to the streets. However, no reports of damage or casualties have been received so far.
Regarding this, Rubayet Kabir, the acting head of the Meteorological Department's Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center, told the media that the earthquake was felt at 10:32 am in various parts of the country, including the capital. It measured 5 on the Richter scale.
He further stated that the earthquake's epicentre was in Myanmar, 482 kilometres away from Dhaka. The tremor was also felt in the northeastern regions, including Sylhet and its surrounding areas.
