According to the Meteorological Department, a cold wave is sweeping over two districts in the country, and it may persist.

This information was revealed in the weather forecast on Sunday (January 19).

The forecast stated that the extension of the sub-continental high-pressure system extends across West Bengal and adjoining western parts of Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, a seasonal low-pressure area is located over the South Bay of Bengal, with its extension reaching up to the North Bay of Bengal.

Under these conditions, the temperature across the country is expected to decrease by 1 to 2°C during the next 24 hours from 9 am on Sunday. Light to moderate fog may cover some parts of the country from late night to early morning.

Additionally, a mild to moderate cold wave is sweeping over the districts of Panchagarh and Kurigram and is likely to continue.

Meanwhile, meteorologist Md Hafizur Rahman from the Meteorological Department said that temperatures in the northern region may drop further after January 20 this week. During this period, a short-term mild cold wave is expected.

He added that the cold wave could intensify the feeling of cold in the northwestern region. Fog levels are also expected to increase across the country.

Moreover, the chill from cold winds may make the cold feel more severe than it currently is.
