Dr Asif Nazrul, Advisor on Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, has announced the withdrawal of all cases filed under the Cybersecurity Act across Bangladesh.

At a press briefing held on Tuesday (January 21) in the Ministry of Law's conference room, Dr Nazrul addressed the journalists on several pressing issues.

He stated that the withdrawal process for these cases would commence within the next seven days. Simultaneously, the Cybersecurity Act is undergoing revisions, with the Ministry of Information Technology actively working on proposed reforms.

Dr Nazrul also highlighted efforts to address politically motivated harassment cases. Approximately 2,500 such cases, involving hundreds of thousands of accused individuals, have been identified for withdrawal, with a target completion date set for February.

In addition, he announced plans to reform both civil and criminal laws. The Ministry of Law aims to finalize revisions to all amendable laws within six months.

Discussing concerns over politically influenced judicial appointments, Dr Nazrul emphasized that future appointments to the higher courts would prioritize competence and impartiality. A Supreme Court Judges Appointment Ordinance is currently being drafted to institutionalize this approach.

Addressing the matter of Sheikh Hasina's extradition, Dr Nazrul warned that failure to secure her return would violate India's extradition laws. He affirmed the government's commitment to taking all necessary steps to ensure her extradition.
