Highest Poverty in Barishal, Lowest in Chattogram Division

The Barishal division has the highest number of people living in poverty, while Chattogram division has the lowest. This information is based on the "Poverty Map of Bangladesh 2022," released by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) on January 30, 2025.

According to the Statistics, 19.2% of the population in Bangladesh lives below the poverty line. Urban areas experienced a poverty rate of 16.5% while rural areas of 20%.

The poverty rate in Barishal Division is the highest at 26.6%, whereas Chattogram boasts the lowest at 15.2%.

Madaripur is identified as the poorest district, with the highest poverty rate of 54.4%, while Noakhali is the wealthiest district, with a poverty rate of only 6.1%.

The poorest upazila is Dasar in Madaripur, with a staggering 63.2% poverty rate. The richest police station in the country is Paltan in Dhaka. The poverty rate in this area is 1%.
