Journalism won’t be interrupted by Digital Security Act: Minister

Law Minister Anisul Huq said, the way the Digital Security Act was made, in that case I can assure you that it will not create any interruption in freedom of speech and freedom of journalism.

He said this while replying questions to the newsmen after inaugurating the chief judicial magistrate court building in Panchagarh district on Thursday. The building was constructed under supervision of Public Works Department with a cost of 50 crore taka.

The minister said, the crimes under panel code of the act will cover different crimes such as defamation, if that is committed using digital devices. There is no provision that the digital security act will act as an obstacle to journalism or investigative journalism freshly.

He said, I can assure you that there are some safeguard in the act so that it will not be easy to misuse the act.

The Law Minister said, Awami League government will not misuse the act and furthermore the safeguard is given in the act to avoid the misuse.

While answering to another question the minister said, election will be held in the stipulated time according to the precedence of the constitution. We hope that everybody will participate in the election. We believe in liberty. Which party will come into election and which party won’t that should be decided independently. But we invite all to come in election.

The program was presided over by Panchagarh district and session judge Abu Mansur Md. Ziaul Haque where local parliament members, top administration officers and lawyers were present.
