BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has stated that if the Election Commission performs its duties correctly, the national election could be held in June-July instead of December.
Rizvi made the remark while addressing an event at Bhuban Mohan Park in Rajshahi on Friday morning. The event was organized to meet the injured victims of law enforcement shootings during student uprisings in Rajshahi and to offer prayers for the families of martyrs from Chapainawabganj, who were affected during the fascist regime of Prime Minister Hasina.
He further added that if the Election Commission works effectively, the national election can be held in June-July. He warned that any delay could result in public distrust towards the interim government. "We consider the interim government to be a caretaker government, and we believe this government will oversee the national election," Rizvi stated, emphasizing that no other election should be held before the national election.
Rizvi also criticized Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, calling her a leader who was once the head of a group of bandits, accusing her of having committed atrocities against students and others during her rule. He also remarked on India's involvement in Bangladesh’s internal matters, questioning why India was so concerned about Bangladesh, and noting that India’s Border Security Force has been involved in frequent shootings at the Bangladesh-India border. Rizvi claimed that the Hasina government remained silent in the face of such violence, aligning itself with India’s interests.
