Six individuals have been arrested in connection with the shocking incident of a gold heist in Banashree, where a businessman was shot and robbed. The Detective Branch (DB) of the police conducted the operation, recovering the looted gold jewellery along with illegal firearms.
This information was disclosed in a press release signed by Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (Media & Public Relations) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), on Saturday (March 8).
According to the statement, DB police arrested six individuals involved in the Banashree robbery. The stolen gold and illegal weapons were recovered from their possession.
DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali will hold a press briefing on the matter today at 12:15 pm at the DMP Media Center.
Earlier on the night of February 23, businessman Anwar was shot by assailants while returning home to Banashree's D Block after closing his shop. The attackers looted approximately 200 bhori (around 2.3 kg) of gold jewellery and cash. An 18-second video of the incident went viral on social media, sparking widespread outrage.
Following the incident, local residents and businessmen in Banashree staged protests, forming human chains and blocking roads, demanding the arrest of those involved.
