Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman informed Parliament on Sunday that 59 individuals have been convicted in connection with crimes against humanity committed during the July-August mass uprising in 2024.
Out of those convicted across seven cases, 13 have been sentenced to death by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), while the remaining defendants received life imprisonment or other various prison terms.
Responding to a query from Jamaat-e-Islami lawmaker Masum Mostafa, representing Netrokona-5, the minister detailed the current progress of legal proceedings.
He stated that a total of 80 cases have been filed regarding the uprising.
While judgments have been delivered in seven cases, proceedings for the remaining 73 are currently ongoing.
Of these pending cases, 22 are at the witness testimony stage, and investigations are continuing in the other 51.
The Law Minister further disclosed that 463 individuals have been accused in total across all crimes against humanity cases linked to the July events.
Providing a breakdown of the status of these accused persons, he noted that 174 have been arrested, 288 remain fugitives, one has died, and one has been acquitted.
