Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said, this election might be more competitive if the opposition parties participated in it. No allegation came in till at the moment. As the opposition parties were absent so the Dhaka City Corporation election was not competitive but it was peaceful.
He said these to the newsmen while visiting the development activities of under construction second Meghna-Kanchpur bridge at Sonargaon in Narayanganj on Dhaka-Chattogram highway on Thursday.
Urging BNP including Mirza Fakhrul not to do politics with illness of Begum Khaleda Zia he said, the government has taken all necessary steps for treatment of Begum Khaleda Zia.
Obaidul Quader said, the government of Sheikh Hasina is not inhuman. The government has taken all necessary measures for treatment of Begum Khaleda Zia. But BNP is emphasizing on politics rather that illness of Khaleda Zia. They have chosen the path for politics regarding her illness.
He said, after completing construction works of Meghna and Gomti bridges those will be inaugurated in April and May respectively. Those will be inaugurated through video conferences by the Prime Minister. There will be no traffic congestion on Dhaka-Chattogram highway if these three bridges are opened.
About India-Pakistan tension on their border the Bridges Minister said, we do not want war, want peace. The government has ordered zero tolerance on cross border terrorism in the subcontinent. The government has taken firm stand against the terrorist groups on border.
High officials of police, roads and highways and bridge divisions were present at that time with the minister.
