Not in Keraniganj, chemical godowns being relocated in Munsiganj

Not in Keraniganj, chemical village will be set up at Sirajdikhan in Munsiganj. There all chemical godowns will be set up under BSCIC chemical industrial park project.

Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved two projects about setting up 54 chemical godowns in temporary basis and to set up a permanent chemical village.

The project will cost 1 thousand 695 crore taka. Under the project 2 thousand 154 plots will be made on 310 acres of land at Sirajdikhan in Munsiganj. Besides, employment opportunity for 50 thousand people will be created.

On Tuesday at the ECNEC meeting at NEC conference room at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ordered not to keep any chemical godown in old Dhaka.

The Prime Minister said, those who do only chemical business in old Dhaka and throughout the country will get allocation of land in the project site. No outsiders will be permitted to get plot in the project site.

After the meeting Planning Minister M A Mannan said at the press briefing, BSCIC Chemical Village is not going to be set up in Keraniganj. It will be set up at Sirajdikhan in Munsiganj.

The government has taken the decision after the devastating fire incident at Churihatta in old Dhaka.

Total seven projects including the new and revised were approved in Tuesday’s ECNEC meeting. The total cost is 10 thousand 115 crore 77 lakh taka.
