The by-election to Chattogram-8 constituency that fell vacant following the death of Moin Uddin Khan Badal will be held on January 13 next.
The Election Commission on Sunday declared the by-polls schedule for the constituency.
As per the schedule, the deadline for the submission of nomination paper is December 12, while the date for scrutinizing the nomination papers is December 15 and the last date for the withdrawal of candidacy is December 22.
In the election, the ballots will be cast through electronic voting machines (EVMs) from 9am to 5pm without any break.
The Regional Election Officer of Chattogram will act as the returning officer in the by-election.
The Chattogram-8 constituency is comprised of five wards (ward No 3-7) of Chattogram City Corporation and Boalkhali upazila except Sripur and Kharandip unions.
There are some 4.76 lakh (475,996) voters in the constituency.
Moin Uddin Khan Badal, the executive president of a faction of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasod), was elected MP with Awami League’s symbol ‘Boat’ in the last general election. He died at a hospital in Bangalore, India at the age of age of 67.
Besides, the EC announced election schedules for Dupchanchia municipality in Bogura and Haimchar upazila parishad fixing the balloting for the same day.
The elections to the two local bodies will also be held using EVMs.
