Seven individuals, including three former ministers from the Awami League government, have been arrested in connection with attacks and killings linked to the ongoing anti-discrimination movement. The arrests were made in separate cases filed at various police stations across the capital.
The arrested individuals are:
- Former Law Minister Anisul Huq.
- Former State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications, and IT Zunaid Ahmed Palak.
- Former State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Majumder.
- Major General (Retd.) Ziaul Ahsan.
- Awami League leaders Mostofa Jamal and Rokeya Jaman.
- Jubo League activist Tajul Islam Taju.
On Monday (February 3), Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate G. M. Farhan Ishtiaq formally approved their arrests after the investigation officers presented them before the court at around 9:30 am.
Details of the Cases
According to court sources:
- Kamal Ahmed Majumder was arrested in two separate murder cases involving Rakibul Hossain and Md. Mohiuddin, both under Mirpur Police Station.
- Anisul Huq and Zunaid Ahmed Palak were arrested in connection with the murder of Md Al Amin near the Aftab Nagar Main Gate under Badda Police Station.
- Anisul Huq and Ziaul Ahsan were also arrested in another case filed at Kadamtali Police Station.
- Mostofa Jamal, Rokeya Jaman, and Tajul Islam Taju were arrested in a separate case under Mirpur Police Station.
