The High Court has nullified the government's decision to appoint 6,531 candidates as assistant teachers in government primary schools across the Dhaka and Chattogram divisions.
The verdict was delivered on Thursday (February 6) by a High Court bench comprising Justice Fatema Najib and Justice Shikdar Mahmudur Razi. The court has instructed authorities to conduct fresh recruitment based on merit.
On November 19, the High Court had previously put a hold on issuing appointment letters to these candidates, citing concerns over the application of the quota system in the recruitment process. Alongside this suspension, the court also issued a rule on the matter.
The final results of the third phase of assistant teacher recruitment for government primary schools in these divisions (excluding three hill districts) were published on October 31. A total of 6,531 candidates were declared successful, with the results made available on the Directorate of Primary Education's website.
Earlier on May 28, the High Court had suspended the recruitment process, including the viva voce (oral) examinations, for six months in the concerned districts. However, the Appellate Division later overturned this order, allowing the viva examinations to proceed.
Following this ruling, the Directorate of Primary Education resumed the viva examinations. Meanwhile, the court had also directed an investigation into allegations of question paper leaks in the written examination, as reported by the media.
