In a press briefing on Sunday (February 9, 2025), Ministry spokesperson Rafiqul Alam made these remarks in response to India's Ministry of External Affairs statement on the demolition of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's historic residence.

Earlier, on February 6, India's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Randhir Jayaswal, expressed regret over the destruction of the house, calling it a deeply unfortunate event.

He further stated that those who value the Bengali identity and the independence movement should recognize the significance of this residence in Bangladesh's national history, and such destruction should be condemned.

In response, spokesperson Rafiqul Alam mentioned that Bangladesh's interim government has taken note of the statement. He emphasized that India's comments on Bangladesh's internal affairs were both unwanted and inappropriate.

He further pointed out that while Bangladesh has experienced similar situations with neighbouring countries, it refrains from commenting on the internal matters of other nations, expecting the same level of respect in return.
