Kirstine Damkjaer, the United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), is set to visit Dhaka for a two-day official trip on February 11-12.
The visit aims to strengthen collaboration between the Government of Bangladesh and UNOPS, with a focus on climate change, disaster response, and development cooperation. Discussions will explore new opportunities for partnership in these critical areas.
During her stay, Damkjaer will engage with senior government officials and advisors of Bangladesh’s interim government. UNOPS is already supporting Bangladesh in key sectors, including healthcare, climate change adaptation, and sustainable infrastructure.
As part of her visit, she will tour the National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital (NIDCH). This facility is one of 29 hospitals benefiting from the PSA Oxygen Plant Project, a major healthcare initiative implemented by UNOPS with funding from the Global Fund, in partnership with the National Malaria Elimination Program and the Center for Disease Control & Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The PSA Oxygen Plant Project is among Bangladesh’s most significant ongoing healthcare support initiatives. During her hospital visit, Damkjaer is expected to meet with the Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to discuss the project’s impact and future healthcare collaborations.
