The decision was made on Tuesday (March 4) during a meeting of the Advisory Council, chaired by Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

Although the award policy was finalized during the tenure of the previous Awami League government, no recipient had been selected yet.

On May 20, 2024, the former government had given final approval to the award policy, which aimed to recognize contributions to global peace, hunger and poverty alleviation, and conflict resolution. However, despite the approval, no award had been granted. Ten months later, the interim government decided to revoke it.

According to the original policy, the Awami League government had planned to present the award every two years to an individual or institution. The recipient was to receive $100,000, an 18-carat gold medal weighing 50 grams, and a certificate.

The award was intended for individuals or organizations contributing to global peace, the fight against hunger and poverty, and efforts to end conflicts and wars.
