The European Union (EU) has announced it will provide €2 million to rehabilitate and support individuals severely injured in the violence during the mass uprising in Bangladesh last July.
The project, officially launched on Wednesday, March 19th, will be implemented through the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS), with cooperation from the Bangladesh government.
The project, titled, "The Pathways to Healing: A Survivor-Centered Approach to Address Violence and Human Rights Violations," aims to assist approximately 8,000 people affected by the violence in July and August.
According to the EU Embassy, the project will focus on improving the physical and mental health of the injured, strengthening social cohesion, and promoting economic stability.
Key Project Activities:
- Providing rehabilitation and medical care to the injured.
- Supplying assistive devices for those with physical disabilities.
- Ensuring access to medication and priority mental health services and counseling.
- Supporting income diversification.
The project will be implemented in Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna, Rangpur, and Rajshahi divisions.
The EU Embassy stated that the assistance will be provided to all those affected, including students, workers, journalists, and their families, who were injured during last year's uprising.
While the project is scheduled to run until August 2026, it will continue as long as the Bangladesh government and the EU deem it necessary.
