The Chief Advisor of the interim government, Dr Muhammad Yunus, has issued 12 directives to Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to ensure citizen services remain free from harassment, corruption, and fear.
On Friday (March 28), the Cabinet Division conveyed these instructions to the DCs through an official letter.
The letter emphasizes that essential services—such as birth certificates, national identity cards, passports, and land registration—must be provided in a transparent, hassle-free manner. DCs are urged to perform their duties with integrity, avoiding any fear, external influence, or flattery toward the government.
Additionally, the letter states that passports should be issued without police verification. It also highlights the importance of maintaining stable prices of essential goods, ensuring law and order, and improving efficiency in services like land registration, birth registration, and national identity issuance.
The Chief Advisor further called for better coordination among various government offices and agencies, urging officials to strictly adhere to the law while avoiding undue influence or lobbying.
The letter also reminds DCs that their activities in the field are being closely monitored by the government.
Commenting on the directives, public administration expert AKM Saiful Islam Chowdhury noted that after the July uprising, DCs faced a challenging situation. He believes these instructions aim to support and encourage them, marking a positive step forward.
