Professor Muhammad Yunus, the Honorable Chief Adviser of the Interim Government of Bangladesh, attended the Boao Forum at the invitation of the Secretary-General of the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2025 in Hainan, China, from March 26 to 27. Following this, at the invitation of the Chinese government, the Chief Adviser visited Beijing from March 27 to 29, 2025.
During the visit, President Xi Jinping met with Chief Adviser Professor Yunus in Beijing. Additionally, Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang held discussions with the Chief Adviser on the sidelines of the Boao Forum, while Vice President Han Zheng also met with him in Beijing. In a cordial and constructive atmosphere, both sides exchanged views on bilateral relations, as well as international and regional issues of mutual interest, reaching a broad consensus. Professor Yunus also attended the opening ceremony of the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2025 and delivered a speech.
China welcomed the interim government of Bangladesh under the leadership of Professor Yunus and acknowledged the reforms and progress made since August 2024. Bangladesh expressed gratitude to China for its support in fostering bilateral relations. Both countries reaffirmed their strong commitment to enhancing their Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership.
Marking 50 years of diplomatic relations, Bangladesh and China highlighted the steady and positive development of their bilateral ties, despite shifts in global and regional dynamics. They pledged to uphold the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, strengthen political trust, align development strategies, and further advance their Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership for the benefit of both nations.
The two sides reiterated mutual support on core interests and major concerns. China reaffirmed its noninterference policy, respect for Bangladesh's sovereignty, and endorsement of Bangladesh's independent development path. It also expressed support for the interim government in maintaining stability and fostering national progress.
Both nations emphasized the importance of U.N. General Assembly Resolution 2758, with Bangladesh reiterating its adherence to the One-China principle. Bangladesh reaffirmed its recognition of the People’s Republic of China as the sole legal government representing all of China and opposed any movement for "Taiwan independence."
Bangladesh and China agreed to deepen high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, strengthen industrial and supply chain partnerships, and collaborate on modernization efforts. Bangladesh appreciated China’s longstanding support in economic and social development, particularly in infrastructure projects such as bridges, roads, railways, and power grids. China pledged continued assistance in infrastructure development and industrialization while encouraging Chinese enterprises to invest in Bangladesh’s textile, clean energy, digital economy, agriculture, and manufacturing sectors. Bangladesh also welcomed Chinese participation in the Mongla Port Facilities Modernization and Expansion Project and expressed readiness to enhance collaboration in key economic areas.
The visit underscored the commitment of both nations to advancing their partnership and fostering long-term cooperation for mutual prosperity.
