Dr Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of Bangladesh's interim government, has arrived in Thailand to participate in the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Summit.
He landed in Thailand at approximately 12:15 pm local time on Thursday (April 3), after departing from Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:55 am on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight.
Meanwhile, the ministerial-level discussions of BIMSTEC commenced earlier in the day in Thailand. Bangladesh's Foreign Affairs Adviser, Touhid Hossain, has joined these discussions. A maritime transportation cooperation agreement has also been signed, with foreign ministers from all seven member states endorsing the deal.
Later today, at 3:00 pm Bangkok time, Dr Yunus is scheduled to attend and speak at the BIMSTEC Youth Generation Forum conference. Tomorrow, he will officially participate in the main summit.
During his visit, the Chief Adviser will hold bilateral meetings with leaders from BIMSTEC member states, including India. Additionally, he will be present at the signing of two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) during the summit.
In a highly anticipated development, Dr Yunus is set to hold a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. The meeting is scheduled to take place on Friday (April 4) at 3:45 pm Bangkok time, on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Summit.
Furthermore, on the third day of the conference, Bangladesh will officially assume the BIMSTEC Chairmanship for the next two years.
