Bangladesh will observe three days of national mourning in honor of Pope Francis, a highly revered figure for hundreds of millions of Catholic Christians worldwide.
The Cabinet Division issued a notification late Wednesday night stating that the mourning period will commence on Thursday (April 24th) and continue through Saturday.
According to the notification, the government has decided to observe a three-day state mourning from April 24th (Thursday) to April 26th (Saturday), 2025, following the death of Pope Francis, the head of the Catholic Church and the Head of State of Vatican City.
During these three days, the national flag will be flown at half-mast at all government, semi-government, and autonomous institutions, educational institutions, and all public and private buildings across Bangladesh, as well as at Bangladesh missions abroad. Additionally, special prayers will be organized for the eternal peace of Pope Francis's soul.
Earlier, Pope Francis passed away on Monday morning at his residence, Casa Santa Marta, in the Vatican. He was 88 years old. He made significant contributions during his over a decade-long tenure as the head of the Catholic Church.
