The Health Reform Commission has officially submitted its report to Dr Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser to the interim government.
The report was handed over on Monday (May 5) at 11:00 am at the State Guest House Jamuna.
Abul Kalam Azad Majumdar, Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, confirmed the development. A detailed presentation of the report is being held at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.
The interim government formed the 12-member Health Reform Commission on November 17, 2024, appointing National Professor and President of the Bangladesh Diabetic Association, Dr AK Azad Khan, as its Chair.
The commission comprises a diverse panel of experts:
- Dr Abu Mohammad Zakir Hossain, Professor at the Directorate General of Health Informatics and Public Health
- Professor Liaquat Ali, Chairman of Pathikrit Foundation
- Professor Dr Sayeba Akhter, Gynaecology Specialist
- Professor Dr Naila Zaman Khan, Pediatric Neurologist
- M.M. Reza, Former Secretary
- Professor Dr Mozaffarul Haque, Former Regional Advisor of WHO (South-East Asia)
- Dr Azharul Islam, Scientist at icddr,b
- Professor Dr Syed Md Akram Hossain, Square Hospital
- Professor Dr Syed Atikul Haque, Chief Consultant at Green Life Centre for Rheumatic Care and Research
- Dr Ahmed Ehsanur Rahman, Scientist in Maternal and Child Health, icddr,b.
- Umair Afif, Medical student at Dhaka Medical College
Originally, the commission was tasked with submitting its report within 90 days of its formation. However, the deadline was extended twice, with the final submission date set for April 30.
