Former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr in the United Kingdom with her family after a long gap of seven years.
Present with her are her eldest son and BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, daughter-in-law Dr. Zubaida Rahman, younger son late Arafat Rahman Koko's wife Sharmila Rahman Sithi, and her three granddaughters, Zaima Rahman, Zafia Rahman, and Zahia Rahman. Khaleda Zia last celebrated Eid with her family in London in 2017 when she went there for medical treatment.
Earlier, on January 8th, Khaleda Zia was admitted to a London clinic. She arrived at London Heathrow International Airport from Dhaka in a special royal ambulance sent by the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. From there, she was directly taken to The London Clinic. She received treatment at the hospital until January 24th. On January 25th, after being discharged by doctors, she moved to her son Tarique Rahman's residence.
Meanwhile, BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has extended her greetings for the holy Eid-ul-Fitr to the people of Bangladesh, including party leaders and activists.
Dr. A Z M Zahid Hossain, Khaleda Zia's personal physician and a standing committee member of the party, conveyed her Eid greetings to the nation through the media on Sunday (March 30th).
He stated, "Madam has conveyed her Eid greetings to the people of the country, including party leaders and activists."
Informing about Khaleda Zia's third Eid celebration in London, Dr. Zahid also said, "Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated in London. As you know, Madam is at her elder son, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman's residence. She is spending the day privately with her loved ones at home."
Dr. A Z M Zahid Hossain mentioned that Khaleda Zia is receiving medical treatment at home under the supervision of Professor Patrick Kennedy and Jennifer Cross of The London Clinic. Additionally, members of her medical team are constantly monitoring her condition and providing necessary treatment. He added that Khaleda Zia is now physically much better and is also in good spirits mentally.
In response to a question, Dr. Zahid Hossain said that following consultations with her medical board after Eid, she might return to the country on any day in April. The matter depends on the approval of the medical board.
Khaleda Zia, 79, has been suffering from various ailments for a long time, including liver cirrhosis, kidney and heart issues, diabetes, and arthritis.
