Awami League to get 48 reserve seats out of 50

The ruling party Awami League is going to get 48 out of 50 reserved seats for women in the 12th National Parliament with the independent parliamentarians.

The ruling party has informed the Election Commission (EC) that it has sought the support of its 14 alliance partners and independents regarding the distribution of reserved seats for women on Wednesday (Jan 31)

A delegation of Awami League submitted the letter signed by party secretary, Obaidul Quader, to the EC Secretary this afternoon.

In response to a question, Abu Sayeed Al Mahmood Swapon said that independent members of parliament have voluntarily surrendered their voting rights to Awami League. They have surrendered their voting rights to the Awami League President PM Sheikh Hasina.


Earlier, Awami League won 223 parliamentary seats in the 12th national parliamentary election. The opposition Jatiya Party won 11 seats. Independent candidates won 62 seats. Besides, Workers Party, Jasad and Kalyan Party got 1 seat each.
