Training aircraft of BAF crashed in Karnaphuli
A YAK130 training fighter jet of Bangladesh Air Force crashed into the Karnaphuli river at Patenga in Chattogram due to mechanical failure.
The accident took place on Thursday (May 9) morning. Two pilots of the plane were rescued. The condition of one of them is said to be critical.
According to ISPR, two pilots ejected with parachutes, with one critically injured.
Meanwhile, the Navy and Coast Guard are conducting rescue operations in the river. Shipping has been temporarily suspended.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police Port Zone Deputy Commissioner Shakila Soltana confirmed this information.
She said that a mechanical fault occurred during the landing after training at Air Force Base Zahurul Haq, located near Shah Amanat International Airport. At this time, before the emergency landing, the lower part of the plane caught fire.
She also said that two pilots were injured in the incident. They have been admitted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH).
