Three Killed, 50 Injured in Bus-Truck Collision in Rajshahi

A collision involving two buses and a truck in Rajshahi has resulted in the death of three people and injuries to at least 50 others.

The accident occurred around 12:00 AM on Sunday night (April 6th) on the Rajshahi-Natore bypass road near the Barindra University adjacent to the Kharkhari Bazar area. The injured have been admitted to Rajshahi Medical College (RMC) Hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Jewel Ahmed (40), Nasim Uddin (45), and Mizanur Rahman (32). All of them were residents of Ghora Pakhiya village in the Ranihati Union of Chapainawabganj district. However, the identities of the injured were not immediately available.

It is reported that activists of the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami from the Ranihati Union of Chapainawabganj district had set off in two buses for a trip and pilgrimage. Their destinations included the Padma Bridge, the Sixty Dome Mosque in Bagerhat, and the graves of several deceased Jamaat leaders, including Allama Delawar Hossain Sayeedi, Ali Ahsan Mujahid, and Kader Molla. 

On the way, one of the buses collided with an oncoming truck and fell into a roadside ditch. The other bus and the truck were facing each other on the road. Two people died at the scene. Later, one more person died while undergoing treatment at RMC Hospital after being rescued by the fire service and locals.

Upon receiving news of the accident, leaders of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Jamaat went to the scene. Jasim Uddin Sarkar, former organizing secretary of the Metropolitan Jamaat, stated that there were approximately 90 passengers in the two buses, all of whom were activists and supporters of the Ranihati Union branch of Jamaat-e-Islami in Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila.

Dr. Shankar K. Biswas, spokesperson for RMC Hospital, said that about 50 people came to the hospital for treatment. Among them, one died. 40 people with serious injuries have been admitted and are receiving treatment.

Sabina Yasmin, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, confirmed the death of three people in the accident and said that the injured have been admitted to RMC Hospital. The condition of some of the injured is critical.
