Daily 50 cr liters purified water for Dhaka

Local Government, Rural Development (LGRD) and Cooperatives Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain has said that daily 50 crore liter purified water will be supplied to Dhaka metropolitan area from the river Meghna.

While answering to a question he told the parliament on Tuesday that government has taken a project for supplying purified water according to the demand of the city dwellers.

While responding to a written question of treasury bench member M Abdul Latif the Minister said, the government has taken a project titled ‘Dhaka Environmentally Sustainable Water Supply Project-DESWSP’ with an aim to meet the demand of purified water for Dhaka metropolitan area from the river Meghna.

Under this project water will be extracted from Meghna river at Bishnandi point (under Araihazar upazila) and then it will be purified at a treatment plant at Gandharbopur on the bank of river Shitalakhya.

He said, from this under construction treatment plant daily 50 crore liters purified water could be supplied to Dhaka city.

LGRD Minister informed that the project will be concluded in December, 2021.
