Customs intelligence seized the biggest shipment of foreign cigarettes at the Shahjalal International Airport in the capital. A huge amount of foreign cigarettes worth tk 5 crore ten lakh was seized during the operation at Shahjalal International Airport at around 11:15 pm on Wednesday.
The cigarettes were brought by the Emirates Airlines flight EK-584. The flight from Dubai landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11.55 pm.
According to customs intelligence, customs detectives had special surveillance in the apron area of the airport on the basis of secret information. Later, after landing the EK-584 flight, the Customs detectives detected and detained three plates brought on fruit announcement from its cargo hold. Custom House, Dhaka's Preventive Team participated in the work. Later, the cartons brought on fresh fruit announcement were opened in the presence of various agencies at around 12:30 pm. At the time 303, 555 & Black brand cigarettes were seized.

Customs detectives believed that these cigarettes were brought to avoid high tariffs (about 450%) on cigarettes.
According to the customs intelligence sources, necessary legal action will be taken under the Customs Act on seized goods.
