UP chairman hacked and shot dead in Narsingdi

A Union Parishad (UP) chairman was hacked and shot dead by miscreants at Raipura upazila in Narsingdi district. The incident took place at Alinagar Arakanda area in the upazila on Thursday afternoon.

The name of the deceased is Sirajul Haque. He was the UP chairman and local union unit Awami League president of Banshgari union.

According to the locals, police said, Sirajul Haque was returning to his Banshgari home after completing the disaster management committee meeting in the upazila boarded on a motorcycle. When the motorcycle reached at the Alinagar Arakanda area the miscreants stopped him. They beat the motorcycle driver away. Later they shot and hacked Sirajul and left him in a nearby water body. He was admitted to the Raipura upazila health complex under critical condition. He died on the way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Physician of Raipura upazila health complex Rezaul Islam Khan said, there were wounds of bullet in the neck and chops of sharp weapon in different parts of Sirajul’s body. He was shifted to Dhaka medical due to excessive bleeding.

Officer in Charge of Raipura police station Delwar Hossain told Rtv online that there was feud between two rival groups for establishing supremacy in Banshgari union. The incident may be a result of that.

UNO of Raipura upazila Shafiqul Islam said that Upazila chairman and ASP of Raipura-Belabo circle visited the spot.

Meanwhile, tension is prevailing in the area following the killing.
