Dr Salehuddin Ahmed, Economic Adviser to the interim government, has commenced the presentation of the national budget for the fiscal year 2025-26, amounting to Tk 7.90 trillion.
The budget address began airing at 3:00 pm on Monday (June 2) via Bangladesh Television and is being broadcast simultaneously by all private TV channels and radio stations through a shared feed.
Finance Ministry sources report that the key focus areas of this year's budget include curbing inflation, boosting revenue collection, and restoring macroeconomic stability. Notably, the budget size is slightly smaller than that of the ongoing 2024–25 fiscal year.
The last proposed budget under the previous Awami League government was Tk 7.97 trillion, presented by then Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali. However, mid-year revisions brought the effective implementation size down to Tk 7.89998 trillion.
This marks the first budget presented by the interim government and the 54th national budget in Bangladesh's history.
