Today marks World Music Day. This day is celebrated annually around the world on June 21. The purpose of this day is to spread peace and positive thoughts across the globe.
Music and melody are not confined within the borders of any specific country. Therefore, this language of song is often referred to as a universal language.
This day is connected to France's festival, 'Fête de la Musique' (Music Festival/Make Music Day). This country, famous for its art, literature, and culture, played a leading role in celebrating World Music Day.
This is because in 1981, France's Minister of Culture, Jack Lang, sought to give this festival an international form. Following continuous efforts, this special music festival day became known as 'World Music Day' in 1982.
Bangladesh first began celebrating the day in 2007. Currently, this day is celebrated in about 450 cities across 120 countries, including Bangladesh. Various countries organize music concerts and other music-centric events to mark the occasion.
Music has the power to unite everyone. Melodies express a flood of emotions, sorrow, and happiness. So, on World Music Day, embrace music to express your feelings. However, many believe that not just one day, but every day of life should be filled with music.
