According to a report by Anadolu, approximately 250,000 people have crossed from Lebanon into Syria as a result of Israel’s intensified attacks, the UNHCR head stated on Monday.

“I’m at the Syrian-Lebanese border, where a quarter of a million people have crossed since September 23,” Filippo Grandi shared on X (formerly Twitter).

He emphasized that local authorities, the Syrian Red Crescent, the UN, and other partners are working around the clock to manage the surge of refugees.

Grandi arrived in the region on Saturday to meet with officials and Syrians and Lebanese nationals who fled Lebanon due to the Israeli strikes. He highlighted that hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced or left destitute by the airstrikes.

Since September 23, Israel has conducted large-scale airstrikes across Lebanon, targeting what it claims are Hezbollah positions. The strikes have resulted in 1,251 deaths, 3,618 injuries, and displaced over 1.2 million people.

Despite international warnings of a potential regional war amid Israel’s ongoing assaults on Gaza and Lebanon, Tel Aviv escalated the conflict on October 1 with a ground invasion into southern Lebanon.
