23,000 Migrants Arrested in Saudi Arabia in One Week

Saudi authorities have arrested 22,993 expatriates across various regions for violating residency, labor, and border security laws within a week. The arrests were made between October 3 and October 9 through joint operations by the country’s security forces and relevant government agencies.

The Saudi Gazette, citing the Ministry of Interior, reported these figures on Saturday, October 12.

According to a statement from the Interior Ministry, 14,269 individuals were arrested for violating residency laws, 5,230 for breaching border security regulations, and 3,494 for labor law violations.

Additionally, 1,378 people were apprehended while attempting to cross into Saudi Arabia illegally, while 80 were caught trying to escape the country through unauthorized routes. Among these, 41% were Yemeni nationals, 58% Ethiopian, and 1% from other countries.

The ministry further revealed that 19 individuals involved in harboring, transporting, or supporting violators through secret operations were also arrested. Legal action has already begun against 15,136 individuals, including 1,616 women.

The Ministry of Interior warned that providing shelter or transportation to undocumented migrants could result in severe penalties, including up to 15 years of imprisonment and fines of 1 million Saudi Riyals.
