Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had called for a protest rally at Islamabad's D-Chowk on November 24, demanding the release of Imran Khan. Supporters began their march toward the capital from various parts of the country.
However, government resistance slowed their progress, and despite reaching their destination on the night of November 26, the firm stance of the authorities forced the rally to retreat.
On Wednesday (November 27), PTI’s media cell announced in a press release that the peaceful rally has been temporarily suspended due to the government’s brutal actions. The party added that future plans would be determined following Imran Khan’s next directives.
Earlier, repeated clashes between PTI supporters and police turned areas around Islamabad into battlegrounds. To control the situation, the government deployed the military.
Amid escalating tensions, the United States urged both sides to exercise restraint. Washington called on the Pakistani government to uphold human rights and adhere to the constitution.
During a press briefing on Monday (November 25), U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller stated, “We urge Pakistani authorities to respect human rights and fundamental freedoms and to demonstrate adherence to their constitution in maintaining law and order.”
