Facing internal party conflicts and criticism, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced his resignation from his role as the country's leader and head of the ruling party. Just hours later, newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated his desire to make Canada the 51st state of the United States.

In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, on Monday (January 6), Trump expressed this intention.

Trump stated, "Many in Canada would love to be our 51st state. The U.S. will not bear the burden of massive trade deficits and subsidies to keep Canada afloat. Justin Trudeau knew this, which is why he resigned."

He added, "If Canada joins the United States, there will be no tariffs, taxes will be significantly reduced, and they will be completely safe from Russian and Chinese threats. Together, wouldn't that make a great nation?"

As of now, there has been no response from Canada regarding Trump's post.

Trump has also threatened to impose a 25% tariff on imports if Canada fails to stop the illegal entry of drugs and immigrants across its southern border.

Since being elected U.S. President last November, Trump has suggested that Canada become the 51st state of the United States and offered Justin Trudeau the role of governor.

Trump further claimed that the idea of making Canada a part of the United States is "fantastic" and that many Canadians support it.

On December 18, in another post on Truth Social, Trump stated, "No one can explain why we subsidize Canada with over 100 million dollars a year. Many Canadians want Canada to become the 51st state. It would save a lot in taxes and military expenses. I think it's a great idea. The 51st state!"
